Holidaying with Dogs
Holidaying with your pampered pooch is very possible in Moyne. There are a host of pet-friendly accommodations, including several of the town's caravan parks. It is wise to confirm via phone or email the regulations of holidaying with pets before you book.
If you are considering visiting us with your special friend, below are a few things you should know.
WHERE CAN I TAKE MY DOG?
Port Fairy township
All dogs must be on a leash in the area bounded by Regent, William, Campbell and Gipps Streets as well as King George Square (Fisherman’s Wharf), Martins Point and the Port Fairy Township to Glaxo section of the Rail Trail.
Beaches
Between the 1st of December and Easter Monday NO DOGS (or animals of any kind including Horses, Camels etc) can be on the beach (on or off lead) between the hours of 9am and 6pm. This applies to the East Beach between Battery Lane and Connolly Street, South Beach between James and Powling Streets and Killarney beach between the boat ramp and 200 metres west of the main car park.
Dog faeces
Dog owners MUST clean up after their dog with their own clean up bag, failure to do so will incur a $107 fine. Dog walkers must also be in possession of a “clean-up” bag when walking their dog. Failure to have a bag can incur a fine. A complimentary bag is available from the Visitor Information Centre in Bank Street if needed.
Port Fairy-Warrnambool Rail Trail
Dogs can be walked along the Port Fairy – Glaxo section of the Rail Trail, but they must be on a leash. This is a Rail Trail Committee Code of Conduct requirement.
Griffiths Island
NO DOGS are permitted on Griffiths Island at any time.
Tower Hill Reserve
NO DOGS are permitted in the reserve at any time, even inside a vehicle.
You can
Take your dog inside Russell Clarke reserve (an off leash area) and Martins Point, enjoy a lovely walk along the wharf or play ball in the park. You can also enjoy a walk along the beach during the listed times. There are two 20¢ self guided walks available at the Visitor Information Centre in Bank Street, The Historic Town Walk and the Maritime and Shipwreck Walk Map. Each walk will take about one and a half hours to complete. You can also collect the free Mahogany Walk map. This walk takes six hours (one way) to complete and is a beach walk between Port Fairy and Warrnambool.
