Evolving artwork at Whalebone Gallery
Witness the creation of a unique work of art celebrating the Griffith Island Walk at the Whalebone Gallery until 27 January.
"Griffith Island--Shifting Sands" is a progressive painting with all the Whalebone partner artists participating, says resident artist Jill Edwards. Whale Bone's newest member Niki Lockett will join Meg Finnegan, Julie Gray, Freya Marriott, Robert Gatt and Jill Edwards in interpreting the Island Walk experience.
"Each artist will initiate a section of the canvas and over the four weeks all the artists will respond to each other's work as they move through the sections of the canvas," she says.
Jill has photographed the Island, detailing the jigsaw of textures, colours and patterns that make up the fascinating and stimulating diversity that we can experience when we walk the Island.
"This series of photographic Island Fragments will be the inspiration for the painting. Our visitors can see the painting in progress at the gallery and chat to the artists as they work. At the end of January we hope that they can enjoy and connect with a painting that captures the essence of that essential Port Fairy summer holiday experience --the Griffith Island Walk."
