Koroit Irish Festival kicks off
Friday, 30 April 2010 21:51
There is something incredible about Maria Forde's voice at any time.
It is majestic, it is inspiring and it is deeply, deeply beautiful.
Those of us lucky enough to witness her perform an acappella rendition of Amazing Grace on the candlelit altar of a Koroit Church tonight can use another word to describe her amazing vocal gift - spine-tingling.
Koroit's Presbyterian Church altar was Forde's stage tonight (left), the official opening night of the annual Koroit Irish Festival. There wasn't a spare seat at the Church, as people relaxed in a serene environment, soaking up the incredible atmosphere and embracing that spectacular voice.
In the dark Church, with only candes on the altar providing a pale light, Forde serenaded the crowd with a note-perfect performance of a range of her - and others - songs. The atmosphere was nothing short of amazing.
The Koroit Irish Festival technically kicked off yesterday, with a Euchre tournament. Today the air of anticipation and excitement throughout the town was highlighted by the acts performing out front of the local supermarket, while final festival preparations were made. The kids were then able to enjoy Bushwazee's performance at the bush dance before Maria's concert at the Church.
The forecast tomorrow is for the sun to shine on a day jam-packed with activities. From spud picking and Danny Boy competitions through to a street procession, stalls, Irish entertainment and much, much, more, Koroit is the place to be tomorrow. See you there!
