Melbourne tourist wins Moyne Passport competition

Melbourne’s Melissa Damnics is the proud winner of the Moyne Passport competition.

Melissa and her family completed the passport while holidaying at Port Fairy during the January break.

This was the family’s third stay at Port Fairy but they had never ventured to Moyne’s small towns before – only visiting Warrnambool on their previous holidays.

“The passport showcased how diverse the shire was, which surprised us; we had come there primarily for a beach holiday but once you got away from the coast there were a lot of different landscapes,” Mrs Damnics said.

“We thought it was a great idea in terms of building the economy and we hope it helped some of those little towns out there because it was really easy to do.

“And because you had to go into the local store we actually spoke to the locals.”

The family plans to spend their winnings - $1000 – on returning to Port Fairy for another holiday next year.

“We were absolutely rapt to win. Port Fairy is where we want to move when we leave the city.”

Moyne Shire Tourism Marketing Coordinator Tanya Waterson said the passport promotion was designed to raise awareness of the various tourism-related experiences and townships throughout Moyne and while the number of entries received was few, the concept could be built on in the future.
