Port Fairy Lighthouse open to visitors
It's not often visitors to Griffith Island, where the majestic Port Fairy Lighthouse stands, are able to get inside the historic bluestone lighthouse building, but in the coming months two rare public openings are planned.
Subject to fine weather, the lighthouse will be open to the public on Saturday, August 21 from 1.30pm to 4pm as part of the International Lighthouse Lightship Weekend events. Visitors are asked to make a gold coin donation, with funds going to the historic lifeboat. As part of the opening there will also be a display of historic Port Fairy Lighthouse pictures at the Port Fairy Visitor Information Centre, with colouring and quiz packs for the kids.
The Lighthouse will open again on Saturday, September 11 from 2pm to 4pm as part of Port Fairy's events during Victoria Tourism Week.
