The race that stops Port Fairy

Gather the hounds and prepare for the hugely popular Daschund Dash!

To be held  at Southcombe Park tomorrow,
organisers are hoping for fine weather following last year’s hotly contested race, where 30 dogs made the 2dsc_02195 metre run in wet conditions.

Competition is also on to find the dog that looks most like its owner and the best child handler under 12 years.

The Daschund Dash is just one event on this weekend's huge Winter Weekends program.

Winter Weekends was the brainchild of a few local artists and traders in 2008 to encourage visitors during the otherwise quieter winter months.

The June long weekend is specially known for art, music and shopping.  July is the History and Heritage weekend, offering opportunity for researching family trees and other connections with the help of the Historical Society and the Geneological Group. Various activities relate to Port Fairy’s history.

The August Food & Wine Weekend brings together the amazing array of regional producers showcasing their products through the special farmers’ market, tastings, classes, demonstrations etc. and wondrous menus offered throughout the village.
