Port Fairy Spring Music Festival program launched
The program for the Port Fairy Spring Music Festival has been released with tickets for events now on sale through the festival website.
The festival, which runs from Friday 8th October until Sunday 10th October, is a unique classical music weekend held on the second weekend in October each year. Concerts are held in Port Fairy's historic venues, all within walking distance of the town centre. Performances feature music of the great European composers, plus new works by Australian contemporary composers.
Music theatre, jazz and dance are included in a broadly appealing program. New Artistic Director, Anna Goldsworthy has based this year's festival on the theme of ‘conversations', inspired by a letter by Goethe, in which he described a string quartet as ‘four reasonable people conversing'.
‘We will be hearing some of the greatest conversations of the chamber music repertory by Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert, in performances by groups such as the vibrant young Carducci Quartet from the UK, and the Adelaide-based Kegelstatt Ensemble."
Classical music meets pop on Friday night, as Katie Noonan joins the Festival String Quartet for intimate renditions of some of her best-loved songs. And classical music meets mobile phone for the premiere of The Ringtone Cycle on Saturday, 9th October.
