Exhibition of art inspired by literature
Those who are inspired by good books will be inspired by the art on exhibition at Blarney Books in James Street, Port Fairy during August. The winners of the second annual Biblio-Art Awards were announced last month and the art works will be on display until September.
Artworks entered into the competition must to be inspired by literature and a selection of books is made available each year to assist competing artists, with entry open to amateur, emerging and professional artists. First prize was judged by Melbourne's altered book artist, Nicholas Jones, and regional identity, Gareth Colliton.
Princetown artist and dairy farmer Sue Ferrari was the overall winner of the $1000 first prize with her piece titled "Daughter of the Pacific", inspired by Yoko Matsuoka's book Daughter of the Pacific.
Erene Maroniti won the $250 Storyteller's Prize for her piece titled "Apes, angels, & Victorians - A Tale of a tormented evolutionist", which was inspired by Apes, Angels & Victorians: a joint biography of Darwin & Huxley by William Irvine. For the second year running, Mortlake artist and mother of four, Emily McCormack won the $250 People's Choice Award for her gorgeous "Minnie's Mission".
The exhibition runs until September at Blarney Books, 37 James Street, Port Fairy.
