Canine capers abound in Port Fairy

Port Fairy has unleashed the best of its canine companions this week, with the Supreme Australian Sheep Dog Championship and Trans Tasman Test currently underway.

Running through until October 10 at Port Fairy's Gardens Oval, the best competitors and working dogs from all over Australia and New Zealand are competing.

The trials commence at 8am each day and continue throughout the day. There will also be night competition on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

The Supreme Australian Championship is the pinnacle of Australian sheep dog trials and draws the very best competitors and working dogs from all around the country. It is an annual event, held in rotation by the six Australian State Sheep Dog Associations on behalf of the Australian Sheepdog Workers' Association. Victoria is the host state this year and Port Fairy has been selected because of its reputation as one of Victoria's premier tourist destinations.
