Tarerer Festival program released
The 15th Tarerer Festival in November will pay homage to a South West Victorian man with a screening of the Our Generation documentary and a weekend of music and environmental education.
The 2010 Festival - Meerteeyt Marr Lirpeen'- Song For the Coastal Man, is dedicated to long standing member of the Tarerer committee, the late John Amor, who devoted his life's work to protecting and celebrating the environmental and cultural life of all Australians.
The annual Tarerer Festival has been held in the home lands of the Moonwer-Gunditj people, at the Killarney Recreation Reserve, since 2000, with music, visual arts and dance.
This year's festival program includes:
FRIDAY 12th NOVEMBER - TARERER FILM FESTIVAL
Reardon Theatre ,Port Fairy. 7pm Tickets: $12/$10 concession
TGPA and the Port Fairy Film Society present a screening of the documentary ‘Our Generation'. This independent documentary is a rollercoaster journey into the heart of Australia's Indigenous relations, a hidden shame that is pushing the world's oldest living culture to the edge. A fresh and unflinching look at unresolved issues, with music by John Butler Trio, Yothu Yindi, Archie Roach, Shane Howard and Gurrumul. "This is a very important film that everyone must see... SATURDAY 13th NOVEMBER - TARERER FESTIVAL
Killarney Recreation Reserve- 13th and 14th. Entry by donation.
From 12 midday the festival will feature the rich and exceptional talents of local performers Andy Alberts, Brett Clarke, Patricia Clarke, Lyn Eales, Amy Saunders, Skye Taikato and Tank Dilemma.
It is a great privilege to also present LJ Hill, a part Australian Aboriginal (Kamilaroi mother), part Cherokee Indian and part Irish (father) singer-songwriter from NSW who brings his own unique stories and songs to the South West. And the young Jessie Lloyd who is a fresh yet mature singer songwriter who performs an acoustic interpretation of soul and groove.
Launching the three childrens books inspired by their iconic songs ‘Solid Rock ‘My Island Home' and ‘Took the children away' are South West Victorian iconic singer/songwriters Shane Howard, Neil Murray and Archie Roach. They will also perform in concert on Saturday evening. Thanks to One Day Hill Publishing.
Lee ‘Sonnyboy' Morgan is from the Gunditjmara Kirrae Whurrong clan, he spent many years growing up on the Framlingham mission. His solo career and vivacious guitar-strung tunes embrace a new phase in soulful country rock music. Lee will be launching his recently recorded CD ‘Feed me your Song'.
Tarerer also welcomes performers from around the country with young singer songwriter, from Yackandandah Richard Perso, joining the line-up, who is a multi-instrumentalist who redefines the phrase "one-man band," with his guitar, drum, tambourine and didgeridoos. And Essie Thomas, who sends stories into the audience with her unique vocals and awe-inspiring sounds of her guitar.
SUNDAY 14th NOVEMBER - TARERER ENVIRONMENTAL DAY
Sunday will be a day to focus on the environment, starting off with a cooked breakfast accompanied by unplugged music by Organic Matta & the Projectors, environmental talks by eco educator Rebecca Phyland followed by a walk on the Tarerer lands.
