Koroit's Danny Boy championship goes national

The Koroit Irish Festival's popular Koroit Bakehouse Danny Boy Championship will go national this year when the National Museum in Canberra holds its own competition as part of the Irish in Australia Exhibition, Not Just Ned.

The exhibition, which opens in Canberra on St Patricks Day ands runs until July 31st, will cover the Irish presence in Australia from the day in January 1788 when a small number of Irish convicts, marines and officials walked off the transports of the First Fleet to the continuing arrival in our own time of young Irish backpackers.

Festival organisers said the National Museum liked the competition so much they asked permission to hold their own. Koroit's own 2011 Danny Boy Champion will travel to Canberra as a guest performer at the exhibition's competition on May 29th.

Festival oganisers are asking people to get their entries in for the Koroit Bakehouse Danny Boy final as soon as they can with places limited. The Koroit Competition will be held during the Koroit Irish Festival, from April 29th to May 1st.
