Vintage Vehicles on show at Federation Picnic this weekend

Tea Tree Lake will be surrounded by history on Sunday (March 27) as the Federation of Veteran, Vintage and Classic Vehicles Clubs hosts its annual Western District Picnic.

Catering for the event is provided by the parents from the Mortlake Kindergarten, with free entry for members of the public and plenty of lovely spots around the lake and gardens for picnics. This is a great opportunity to see vintage cars, motorbikes, trucks, buses and tractors up close.

Federation treasurer Brett Holloway says this is the seventh consecutive year of this event, which attracts a great selection of vehicles for an enthusiastic crowd.

"This is a static event held in a relaxed environment which allows all participants to mingle, talk, view vehicles and generally share their common interest of the historic vehicle movement," he says.

Although the event is run to cater for Federation member clubs within the Western District, entry to the display area of the Picnic is open to anyone with a collectable vehicle greater than 25 years old.

The Federation of Veteran, Vintage and Classic Vehicle Clubs was established in 1970 and last year celebrated 40 years of supporting Victoria's historic vehicle movement.

Mr Holloway says the objective is to foster and promote adequate assistance for the preservation and restoration of classic vehicles.

"We have over 100 member clubs around Victoria, and assist our clubs with any issues relating to the movement," he says.

Federation runs 5 Picnic Days across the state, with a Picnic at Marong (near Bendigo) in August, a Picnic at Pakenham in May, a Picnic at the Maffra Shed in October and at Wunghnu (Shepparton) in March, as well as the Bendigo National Swap Meeting in November.
