Visit Moyne Shire on the Shipwreck Coast

Farm fence and countryside - Moyne Shire, South West Victoria, Australia

Part of Victoria’s spectacular Shipwreck Coast region, the Moyne Shire offers a range of incredible holiday opportunities for people of all ages.

From Peterborough, neighbour of the 12 Apostles, to the distinctly Irish Koroit (home to the famous Mickey Bourke’s pub) and Victoria’s most popular tourist destination – Port Fairy – Moyne is as diverse as it is appealing, picturesque, warm and inviting. Set in a rich volcanic region and part of the Kanawinka Geopark, the shire’s towns surround the Great South Coast’s regional centre of Warrnambool, famous for its whale nursery and the southern right whales which visit each year.

Thriving regional townships

Moyne is home to many successful and prosperous townships, of a variety of sizes. Each has its own individual character, its own identity and own attributes which contribute to the successful shire we call home.

From our largest centre, the hugely popular Port Fairy – voted Victoria’s best and Australia’s fifth-best tourist destination - through to smaller towns which are home to a small number of residents, the Moyne Shire is a rich palette of culture, history, attractions and events.

We are fortunate to have rich pastoral countryside and a stretch of coastline which is nothing short of spectacular. Within this context we have some of Australia’s most amazing coastal and inland scenery, from the Tower Hill State Game Reserve to Mount Eccles National Park, Hopkins Falls, The Crags, Yambuk Lake and so much more.

These many and varied natural attractions are supported by fantastic events and festivals, from the internationally renowned Port Fairy Folk Festival to the Koroit Irish Festival and Mortlake Music Festival. In addition to these events there are numerous others which occur throughout the year – the calendar of events on our website lists these for you.

Moyne is, quite simply, an ideal holiday destination.
